The origin of The Report

The meetings between director Scott Z. Burns and investigator Daniel J. Jones

Director Scott Z. Burns gathered a lot of information for the script and preproduction of the film The Report. His main source was the meetings he had with US Senate investigator Daniel J. Jones, the author of the report that revealed the abuses carried out by the United States Government after the 2001 attacks.

"Dan told me about his efforts to finish the investigation and make it public, I was captivated," says Burns. "So, I shifted my focus from Mitchell and Jessen (the authors of the interrogation program) to this man who had worked for years with more integrity than what it seems humanly possible."

Jones was a fan of the movies Burns had written, including The Informant, Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum, and he was impressed with his deep knowledge of the Senate report.

The Report. Daniel J. Jones, a fearless investigator

"Scott definitely stood out among the people who contacted me for questions about the report," Jones explains. “Instead of basic questions, Scott asked questions about the details in the footnotes as someone who delves into the topic and seeks to discover everything,” the investigator recalls on his meetings with director Scott Z. Burns.

This great work between them was the origin of the film starring Adam Driver that will surprise the spectators with great revelations.
