What started as a mere online fanfiction ended in a worldwide success brought to the big screen and creating a boundless expectation among the fans of this stormy love story between Tessa and Hardin, the protagonists.
Writer Anna Todd recalls the beginning of this success: “After emerged because I read fanfiction”, and she says: “I have always liked fanfiction and I looked Instagram where people wrote fanfiction about the band One Direction. I joined the Wattpad app to read. I have never thought about writing a fanfiction”.
Wattpad, the online social storytelling platform that allows users to read and write for free was Todd’s springboard to success: “I thought about writing a chapter. It was literally a passing thought. I´m glad I didn’t think about it seriously, otherwise I would have never done it”, she smiles happily.
Although at the beginning the main male character was based on one of the most popular singers of the band, whose initials were the same to that of Anna’s character, the writer points out a difference: “Hardin Scott definitely became the opposite to what Harry Styles seems to be in real life. Once I wrote that chapter, nothing of One Direction remained in my mind,” she ended.
