May December: a hit at Cannes Film Festival

Find out all about the new black comedy film

The director of Carol and Far From Heaven returns to the big screen with May December. The film tells the story of a young actress who decides to meet the woman she will play in a movie. That movie will tell a story that took place twenty years ago, in which a teacher was sentenced to prison for having an affair with a thirteen-year-old boy, whom she later married and raised a family.

The story is inspired by real events, more specifically, Mary Kay Letourneau, who had two children with one of her students and, after her conviction, they were married for fourteen years.

The film directed by Todd Haynes takes this disturbing story as the starting point for his film, which one would think would be a dramatic story but in this case, it is approached from the black comedy genre.

Starring Natalie Portman (Jackie) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice; A Single Man), May December received an eight-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival and great reviews from the press.

The film will be in theaters in Latin America this year.
