The feature film by Nicolas Bedos, who previously directed Mr. and Mme Adelman (2017) and La belle époque (2019), tells the story of Adrien, a seductive dancer whose career ended after a motorcycle accident. After the drastic change in his profession, he wastes his youth in the idleness of the French Riviera. Everything changes when he meets Margot, a young woman who lives on swindles and love manipulations. They will carry out a clever plan, a masquerade, to enjoy a life full of luxuries.
The plot of Mascarade aims to ridicule a cruel world where money prevails above all else. The film offers a particular look at today's society, its intensity, and excesses. The director explains that the initial story about two swindlers is actually a mere excuse to address other interesting themes, for example, the desire and grief that many people experience as a swindle.
