Devotion: inspired by true events

The film chronicles the friendship between pilots Hudner and Brown

Devotion follows two young pilots from different worlds who are accepted into an elite squadron for training. Tom Hudner is a flawless soldier while Jesse Brown is a fiercely talented pilot. The film delves into the little-known story of Jesse, the first black aviator in the U.S. Navy, and his friendship with his colleague, Tom. The two formed a strong bond, which was tested on the heated battlefield.

The film is based on Adam Makos' book, Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship and Sacrifice, which depicts the events that took place during that period. Both the book and the film especially focus on the special friendship shared by the protagonists. The film, called Devotion, delves into the relationship between the two men and what it means to be devoted to another human being. Glen Powell, who plays one of the main characters, was also inspired by reality. During a visit to Hudner in 2017, he saw photographs celebrating Brown's life and he was able to identify how important he was in Hudner's life.

Jesse Brown was a relatively unknown American hero for a long time. Like so many African-American soldiers who preceded and succeeded him, he sacrificed everything for a country that failed to show him the same love. Brown's family is enormously proud that they are finally sharing Jesse's story as the world will have the opportunity to know him, and to know what he meant to his family, his fellow soldiers, and his country.

Directed by J.D. Dillard and starring Jonathan Majors (Captive State), Joe Jonas, Thomas Sadoski, and Glen Powell, Devotion is now on the big screen in Latin America.
