Behind the scenes of films

The color of the characters

A few weeks ago, we talked about the color schemes used in a film. In this sense, no decision is left to chance, but every detail is carefully thought out in order to tell a story from a certain point of view and thus generating certain emotions and feelings in the viewer.

Today we will focus on the color of the characters. During the construction of each one of them, each of their characteristics, their stories, the emotions they experience, among many other aspects, are analyzed in depth. Therefore, the choice of colors for the characters is not arbitrary, nor is it related only to something aesthetic, something that simply "looks good". There is what is called the psychology of color, where through various studies it was concluded that each color has a certain symbolism and can convey certain emotions. Let's see some examples.

Yellow transmits vitality and optimism, but it also represents madness, envy or anger, depending on the context. Orange, on the other hand, is associated with warmth, a color that symbolizes friendship and youth. Red represents love, but it is also associated with blood, anger, shame and it is usually used in scenes of violence. If we talk about green, it is related to hope, nature, fertility, maturity, but it may also represent threat or corruption. Now blue can be tranquility but also sadness or loneliness depending on the context. And finally, violet, which is usually associated with fantasy and illusion because it is not a color often found in nature, and that is why it is widely used in animation.

Color is definitely an essential and preponderant element in the construction of a story and each of the aspects that make it up.
