The 355 is an upcoming action movie with a really powerful cast: Jessica Chastain (All the Money in the World), Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong'o who are spies from different intelligence agencies that will try to save the world by preventing a deadly weapon from falling into the wrong hands. Bingbing Fan, a mysterious woman who will cross the path of these spies, has also joined the cast.
Chastain was the one who came up with the idea of making this project when she strongly criticized some years ago the way women were portrayed in action movies. From that moment on, she decided to make this film directed by Simon Kinberg.
Nyong'o plays Khadijah, a British spy, expert in technology, software and computers. A brave, determined woman who did not hesitate to accept to be part of this film. At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival conference she said, "I have never seen an African woman intelligence agent. To me, that was important because I know they exist. What (my character) uses to her advantage is people’s underestimating her."
Another iconic case in the industry was Black Panther, when sadly deceased actor Chadwick Boseman (21 Bridges) exceeded expectations at the global box office, even in countries where it was not expected to succeed.
The release of The 355 was postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic, but the Latin American theatrical release dates are expected to be confirmed soon. So much empowerment and action certainly deserves to be seen on the big screen.
