French cinema won more than 20 awards at Cannes

Find out all about it!

The world-famous Cannes Film Festival was held from July 6 to 17 and the official website of the event reads: "An exceptional edition. For 12 days, the 74th Festival de Cannes has celebrated our reunion with the cinema as a great international event full of discoveries, encounters and sharing."

There was a long list of films presented and screened in the official competition. The brand new jury was chaired by Spike Lee and distinguished members such as Mati Diop, Myléne Farmer, Maggie Gyllengall, Jessica Hasuner, among others, were in charge of announcing the winners of the Palme d`Or, Grand Prix, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Performance by an Actor and Actress, among several other traditional prizes awarded by the Festival.

What was one of the big surprises of the evening? French cinema surprised everyone by winning more than twenty awards - amazing! Julia Ducournau's film Titane took home the top prize - Palme d'Or - which was presented by Sharon Stone and Spike Lee. The director exclaimed: "There is so much beauty and emotion to be found in what cannot be pigeonholed. Thank you to the Jury for calling for more diversity in our film experiences and in our lives (...)"

If you are a fan of French cinema, we highly recommend Les Miserables, the film nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film and winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. The film is directed by Ladj Dy and tells the story of Stéphane (Damien Bonnard), who joins the Montfermeil Brigade, a suburb east of Paris where he and his new colleagues, Chris (Alexis Manenti) and Gwada (Djibril Zonga)- two agents experienced in the high tension between different groups organized for the control of the neighborhood - will fight to restore order to the area.

Enjoy it!
