10 fun facts about the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street

An unforgettable film

The Wolf of Wall Street is a memorable film directed by the exceptional Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo di Caprio and Margot Robbie. The biopic of broker Jordan Belfort earned five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

Here are some interesting facts about the filming of this movie.

  1. Margot Robbie plays Naomi Lapaglia, Belfort's lover, and she appears fully naked in one of the scenes – that was her first nudity scene of her career.
  2. The scene where they have sex and Naomi's dog is present had to be filmed several times because they could not get the animal to do what it should. To do so, they hid pieces of dog food between the actors' feet.
  3. There are many scenes where they can be seen snorting what is supposed to be cocaine. What was it really? Crushed vitamin B.
  4. True to Scorsese style, most of the movie was improvised.
  5. Jonah Hill (Mid 90's) took a pay cut because his priority was to work with the acclaimed director.
  6. Steven Spielberg visited the set and co-directed Steve Maden's (Jake Hoffman) speech scene.
  7. The unforgettable, exotic sex scene of a bed full of money caused cuts on the back of the protagonist because the fake money had very sharp points.
  8. The real Belfort sued the film's production company in 2020, claiming to have been deceived by the company following the accusation of money laundering against the company's founder, Riza Aziz.
  9. Leonardo DiCaprio ended up throwing up after filming the scene where he eats sushi with Hill. How much did he eat? More than 70 pieces of raw yellowtail!
  10. The director said that there were real brokers on the film set and that some of them worked at the real Stratton Oakmont firm.
