End-of-year balance

The most popular films

The end of the year is coming and naturally we tend to make a general and particular balance of different aspects of our life. We reflected on the objectives we had set, those we were able to achieve, those that are still in progress, and we set the goals for the year to come.

We also think of the annual balance at Diamond Films. Although the film industry suffered a great blow due to the world pandemic caused by the covid-19 - the movie theaters were closed for several months and we did not have the possibility of releasing the usual twenty or thirty feature films on the big screen - we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel as the markets have been reactivating and theaters have gradually reopened.

"Every stumble is not a fall" as the saying goes and that is how we live it. Despite the difficult situation, we distributed three of the highest grossing indie films of the year: Unhinged, Brahms: The Boy II and The War with Grandpa.

The film Unhinged stars Russell Crowe and has grossed over twenty million dollars in the U.S. premiere, reaching over forty-two million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. In many of the countries where it was released - Germany, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, among others - it was the highest grossing film alongside the reopening of theaters in several places. These outstanding results make it rank number two of the top ten indie films at the box office.

The third place is for a fun, family- friendly comedy: The War with Grandpa, which stars Robert de Niro, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle and a great cast. It raised almost eighteen million dollars when released in the United States and has raised more than twenty-eight million to date. It was also the highest grossing film during its premiere in Spain. Although there is still no confirmed release date for Latin American, we anticipate good results for this adventure!

In the sixth place we find a terrifying horror title, Brahms: The Boy II, starring Katie Holmes and directed by William Brent Bell. In this case, the second installment reached more than twelve million dollars in box office when released in the United States and more than twenty million globally.

The scenario was certainly complex and we faced unprecedented challenges, but we are very grateful for all the achievements and for having felt the support of all film lovers.

Here is to an excellent 2021!
