The day for cultural diversity

An important date for Latin American territories

Christopher Columbus discovered America on October 12, 1492. Whereas in the old continent Spain celebrates the national date known as "Hispanic Day," on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, we do not celebrate their arrival but to the people who inhabited the lands before the disembarkation.

This date was known as "Race Day" for many years, but its name has been changed in several countries in recent years with the aim of highlighting the indigenous diversity compared to the culture imposed by the Spanish colonizers and promoting historical reflection and intercultural dialogue on the rights of native peoples. Since 2019, it is known as "Day of the Indigenous Peoples and Intercultural Dialogue" in Peru; "American Cultural Diversity Day" in Argentina since 2010; “Day of Decolonization” in Bolivia since 2011; and "Encounter of Two Worlds" in Chile.

Which movie can we watch on this day?

Uglydolls tells a beautiful message of diversity through a lively and very colorful adventure for the whole family. When Moxy (Tini Stoessel), a cheerful doll who lives in Uglyville, finds out that this is where all the defective dolls who are not chosen to share life with a child live, she decides to change her luck. This is how together with her friends Ox, Lucky Bat, Uglydog (Pitbull) and Babo, they undertake a journey to the "Institute of Perfection" where they will face the villain Lou (Mario Bautista), who will make them go through countless tests - where they will often be helped by a seemingly perfect doll named Mandy (Sofia Reyes) - to determine if they meet the “perfection” requirements to live with a child.

An excellent film to reflect on the fact that true “perfection” does not exist, that the image reflected by the mirror is not what really matters, that we are all the same, and that our differences make us unique.
