TIFF 2020 will be digital

And the event will have its own ambassadors

Toronto International Film Festival will take place this year from September 10 to 19 and the news is that it will be held virtually due to the global pandemic we are currently living. Therefore, we will enjoy screenings and virtual red carpets for the first time. There will also be drive-in screenings and, if health authorities allow them, some physical screenings too.

For the first time in its history, the festival will launch a digital platform for the 45th edition where they will broadcast films, special events, and talks with cast and filmmakers.

The pandemic has hit TIFF hard, but we’ve responded by going back to our original inspiration — to bring the very best in film to the broadest possible audience,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director and Co-Head of the festival.

What’s new

To help promote the festival and the films to be broadcasted, fifty Hollywood directors, actors and actresses were appointed “TIFF Ambassadors”. They will include Nicole Kidman (Lion, Destroyer), Rosamund Pike (7 Days in Entebbe), Viggo Mortensen (Green Book), Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street), David Oyelowo (Gringo), among many others.

The aim is to help TIFF deliver a strong festival, despite the many challenges they are facing.

Our best wishes for this edition to be as successful as ever!
