When a Hollywood’s “God” falls down

Director Kitty Green releases a film inspired by Harvey Weinstein’s case

"I was always on my phone reading information on the case” recalls Kitty Green on how shocked she was in 2017 in front of the flood of accusations against producer Harvey Weinstein for harassment, sexual assault or rape of 90 women, including several famous actresses.

That originated the idea of The Assistant, the film inspired by the case of this powerful Hollywood producer, who Meryl Streep once called “God” due to his ability to build or destroy careers.

Julia Garner stars in The Assistant

“I felt I had a close connection with the people who worked for Weinstein and who had suffered bad experiences in the cinematographic industry” said Green who addressed the subject by focusing the plot of her film in the experience of a newcomer to the industry.

Played by Julia Garner, Jane is a young woman who gets a coveted position as an assistant to an industry legend. Once immersed in her daily work routine, we discover how abuse is in every aspect of her daily work.

A captivating film from start that certainly contributes to talking about gender, power and the role of women in the workplace.
