Lorene Scafaria: "fascinating characters constantly facing value judgments"

The director talks about her next film Hustlers

Filmmaker Lorene Scafaria is always looking for new challenges, new approaches that allow her to surprise the viewer, that's why she felt that Hustlers was the ideal project to carry out.

However, when talking about Hustlers, she makes a vital clarification to understand why she agreed to direct the film: “we are presenting a world we could have seen in many movies and television programs, but from a different perspective: the dancers,” the writer and director shares.

About the story starring the Latin star Jennifer Lopez, she says: "It is an epic mix of police drama, a striptease movie and an exploration of the economic upheaval that changed the lives of many, including our characters."

Hustlers. Women willing to recover what they have lost

The Wall Street crisis of 2008 destroyed the lives of thousands of people, including that of a group of dancers from a nudist club in New York. To recover what the system took from them, they decide to get drunk and rob the richest men in the city.

The story is based on an article from the New York magazine that captivated Scafaria. "Jessica Pressler's article told an interesting story about fascinating characters who constantly faced value judgments and lived with a stigma about their profession and about certain friendships that can sometimes get them into trouble," she ends.
