How do you get an artist that knows how to act, sing, dance and speaks two languages? That was the initial question of the producers of Teen Spirit. Luckily, they chose the right actress: Elle Fanning, who not only draws much of the attention but also has great skills for singing and dancing.
The process that began Teen Spirit
The first script by actor- now turned into director- Max Minghella was set in Poland with 90% Polish dialogue. The original idea was to choose an unknown person for the main role but that was impossible. Ultimately, the producers decided to announce the picture with no cast and that was how Elle Fanning knew about the project.
The actress was interested in a role where she could sing and Minghella recalls: “Once I sat down with Elle, I reimagined the film as an immigrant story, which served to make the film more personal and underlined themes that were already in the screenplay. And it turned out that Elle has an extraordinary singing voice.”
Finally set in England, the film tells the story of Violet (Fanning) who enrolls in a singing contest that will challenge her integrity, talent and ambition.
