Director Drew Pearce had a very clear idea from the beginning of the project: he wanted to make a low budget film, with imperfections, but with focus on action. And it seems he made it, in dialogue with the press, he said: "I think we're very used to doing works of art or entertainment where imperfections are eliminated.”
For this reason, the director decided to take the opposite way: "I had a mantra I did not want to make a movie that was perfect, for everyone. I wanted to make a film that was the favorite movie of a teenager, maybe myself at 17 years old,” he said.
When asked about the idea that gave rise to Hotel Artemis, Pearce also took the opposite path, focusing on the enemies: "I've always liked movies about bad guys. Actors often say that they prefer to play villains than heroes, and I prefer to write villains than heroes,“ he said.
