The perfect marriage between history and memories

Jamie Bell and his role in Film stars don’t die in Liverpool

When it comes to bringing to the big screen the love story between Gloria Grahame (the star of Hollywood's golden years) and Peter Turner (an unknown actor on the rise, and much younger than the legendary actress), director Paul McGuigan was sure to rely on the services rendered by British Jamie Bell.

The story is based on the memories of Turner himself, where reality and personal impressions about what happened are mixed in a continuity that does not recognize borders, creating an original story. To imitate the writing, McGuigan decided to take that format to the film. The plot gives turns and time mixes to provide the viewer with all possible points of interpretation.

On the result, Jamie Bell says: "the film treats very well the topic on memories. Memories arise in strange moments. Something sensory happens and triggers another thing. You get into that and you live it," he said. And he adds, "Paul (McGuigan) managed to do it in a cinematographic language. We used rotating sets, we changed costumes, we walked literally from 1979 to something completely different," he concluded.
