The Cannes Film Festival is surely one of the most important events in the film industry and one of those with the greatest media impact. On this 74th edition, we will enjoy - as usual - the selection of classics, documentaries, short films, titles that will be part of the official competition, special screenings, premieres, among others.
Something new and important to highlight in this edition is that Cannes has taken a series of measures to commit to environmental responsibility. They have worked for several months with the consulting firm Green Événements to rethink the way in which the event is held, while remaining faithful to its history and traditions. This includes reducing electricity consumption through planned lighting, optimizing the way in which waste is sorted or recovered, recycling tarpaulins, the vehicle fleet will be composed of 60% electric cars, reducing printing by resorting to digitization, eliminating plastic bottles, recycling the red carpet, providing sustainable mobility by granting a voucher to access public transport in the city simply by presenting the accreditation of the event, among several other measures.
An image on the event's website states: "Reduce to succeed: the organizers’ ambition is to envision all possible measures in order to reduce the event’s impact and to aim at fully contribute to a carbon-neutral world."
Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival, expressed: "The challenge is huge, but we will and must succeed, each year a little more, each year a little better. Today, we are taking an important and hugely ambitious step. We will report on it regularly, in very practical ways..."
