Spencer

Why is the movie called like that?

Pablo Larraín's upcoming film will star Kristen Stewart and it will be about nothing less than a part of Princess Diana's life. But why is it titled Spencer?

The full name of the Princess of Wales, also popularly known as Lady Di, was Diana Frances Spencer. So it is not strange that the director wanted to choose one of the names of this iconic historical figure, even though it is not so widely known.

"Diana is such a powerful icon, where millions and millions of people, not just women, felt empathy toward her. We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen. She’s a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles. That’s why the movie is called Spencer, which is the family name she had before she met him,” says Larraín in an interview.

Indeed, the film narrates a weekend in the early 1990s that is crucial for the princess as she realizes that her marriage to Prince Charles was not working. The story takes place over three days at the House of Windsor in the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England, during one of her final Christmas holidays.

There is still no confirmed release date for Latin America, but we will certainly know more details of this incredible biopic in the coming months.
