Behind the scenes of films

The phases of film production

As we are passionate about the world of cinema, we love to share details of this wonderful world with you. Today we want to talk about what film production is, also called shooting. In a few words, it is the process of creating a film, which goes from the idea to the shooting. Therefore, it comprises multiple stages and teams involved to make this possible.

We generally talk about five big phases of film production:

1) Development

It is the time to create, to imagine, to come up with all the ideas for our project. We write the script, acquire the copyright if necessary, think about possible locations and look for funding.

2) Pre-production

It's time to prepare the shooting and to make the idea come true. Locations are chosen and permissions to film are granted, if needed, the recording set is created, the casting of actors is done and all the team that will be involved in each stage of the shooting is hired (director, producer, assistant director, costume coordinator, casting director, director of photography, sound and lighting technicians, among others).

3) Production

This is the most valuable phase. It's when you get down to business and start filming all the scenes. Lights, camera, action!

4) Post-production

Once the shooting is completed, the raw material goes to the edit bay where the images, sounds, color, special effects and music will be edited.

5) Distribution

This is the phase where, once the film is finished, the aim is to make it available to the public through a distribution company. Multiple conditions are negotiated in that moment about how the film will be released, on what date, what the marketing plan will be to make it known, among others.

And this is how we, film lovers, get to watch our favorite titles on the big screen.
