Let's get inspired by Vadhir Derbez!

Growing up between two realities

"Opposites that build" [Opuestos que construyen] is the name of the Ted Talk by young actor Vadhir Derbez in Hermosillo, Mexico, 2017. During the seventeen minutes, he talks about how it was to be born and grow up between two very different realities: on the one hand, life in relation to fame, glamor, and his dad’s demand and discipline, and, on the other hand, a calmer, simpler and not so ostentatious life with his mom.

As he grew older and felt more mature, he discovered that he is a mixture of those two realities in which he lived - and lives -. "Living in these two worlds shaped me as a person and I am very grateful for that." He says he started in novels, comedy shows, musicals but that he had a hard time finding what his true passion was. He always admired the people who made movies and music, but he thought it was unattainable. "And for fear of not being good enough, I didn't dare to take that step, I didn't trust myself."

A few years later, he learnt to overcome prejudice and the critical gaze of both himself and his father, as well as that of the rest of the world, when they referred to him as "the son of ...". Although he remarks that this was not an easy thing, he never gave up and he learnt to achieve his goals with dedication and effort.

“We all have talents, we just have to know how to exploit them. Success is there. Never let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do."

A great tip from a rising star we will see shine in his leading role alongside Guy Pearce in the next great horror film The Seventh Day.
