Matthew Goode: "Official Secrets presents a moral dilemma"

The English actor talks about the plot of this captivating film

The plot of Official Secrets will cause viewers to draw their own conclusions. The translator of the English intelligence agency Katharine Gun (Keira Knightley) leaks a memo explaining a plan to extort UN members who have to decide on the 2003 Iraq war.

English actor Matthew Goode plays journalist Peter Beaumont and he said to the media outlets what Knightley's character can generate: “Some people will see her as a saint, and other people will see her as someone who should be in prison for reasons of National security".

And he adds: "That is a very interesting argument because in the end, you have signed something, you work for your country, but this is about prevention or it wanted to be a prevention of the many lives at stake, it is a moral dilemma."

On his role as editor Peter Beaumont, the actor says: “I honestly did not want to disappoint him, I have read a lot of his work and I have seen many photographs. He is a brave man, not something easy to write. He was the foreign affairs editor but he had been in many places, on battlefield and had seen horrible things,” he said.

Goode never hesitated to join the project and has his dialogue with director Gavin Hood in mind: “I remember the first time I called him and said: ‘Gavin, this script is captivating, if you want me, I'm yours, I would love it’  and he said: ‘great!’"
