The story
Baker Dill (McConaughey) is the captain of a modest fishing vessel anchored in the Caribbean Sea. To avoid the scars of the past, he takes shelter in alcohol and becomes obsessed with catching a mythical bluefin tuna that always manages to elude him.
But one day, out of nowhere, his ex-wife comes to ask for help. Masterfully played by Hathaway, the woman urges him to kill his current husband, a tremendously abusive man, and for whom she left the reserved man of the sea.
Karen's presence ties Dill back to a story he had tried to forget. With a son in common, he ends up giving up to his ex’s requests, although in the course of the journey he will begin to realize nothing is what it seems.
