Traveling with Diamond: The Forest

Today we’ll find out more about Mount Fuji and Japan

We continue with this great section of Traveling with Diamond to visit the different locations of our favorite movies. Today we’ll make a brief tour of Japan, more specifically, we are going to Mount Fuji and the reason for this trip is the film The Forest, a movie about a young American girl, Sara, who goes to the forest in search of her twin sister Jess after her mysterious disappearance. She embarks on this dangerous adventure with a charismatic expatriate journalist called Aiden she has just met, and a forest guide, Michi. When night falls, Sara and Aiden are left alone to confront the terrifying place.

The main location of the film is the mythical Aokigahara Park in Japan, a place that has a bad reputation for being considered cursed and a place where people turn to when they suffer from depression and intend to commit suicide. Located in the province of Yamanashi, 100 kilometers from Tokyo, it is considered a supernatural place where between fifty and one hundred people commit suicide every year.

But near the forest is also Mount Fuji, a place regarded as sacred because it is an ancient object of worship and a symbol of the country. Also known as Fujiyama, it is the highest peak on the island of Honshu and in all of Japan. The active volcano is located between Shizuoka and Yamanashi Prefectures and is 3,776 meters high. Mount Fuji is the inspiration for countless songs, haikus, paintings, and now movies too.

This supernatural thriller that delves into the eerie legendary Aokigahara Forest features a great cast, including Natalie Dormer, who was part of The Hunger Games saga, and Taylor Kinney. If you still haven’t watched this terrifying film, now is a good time to travel and be surprised by this spooky story.
