Moonfall: a movie inspired by a conspiracy theory

A new fiction about the secrets of the Moon will be released in 2022

Next year, a new project by Roland Emmerich (MidwayIndependence Day) will hit theaters. His curiosity is a virtue that has led him to create great successes. Independence Day is inspired by the Area 51 conspiracy, 2012 is based on the rumors of the global apocalypse, and Anonymous delves into the myth that Shakespeare was not the real author of his plays. These different conjectures end up becoming fictional stories that amaze the viewers.

A few years ago, the director of Moonfall discovered the Hollow Moon theory, which states that the satellite that orbits the Earth and illuminates the night sky is not a natural occurrence and that it has a vast and secret interior space. This assumption comes from data collected by seismographs on the Moon. After a meteorite impact, the satellite trembles at the same frequency as a bell therefore, it is believed that it must be hollow to produce such a vibration.

The concept of the hollow moon has been mentioned in multiple fictions by H.G. Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs and C.S. Lewis. It has also been related to real events, for example, in the 1970s, NASA's Apollo program recorded a series of earthquakes on the satellite, some of which lasted much longer than earthquakes on Earth. Over the decades, other rumors arose, one of them expressing that the moon could be a sentinel for extraterrestrials.

Through exhaustive and entertaining research, Roland Emmerich finds the inspiration for his films. The director's goal is not to convince viewers that the concept is real but to turn it into an exciting story. In the case of Moonfall, the Moon is thrown out of its orbit and will impact the Earth. Joe Fowler, Brian Harper and KC Houseman, believers in the mysteries of the satellite, will embark on a journey to gain information and save humanity. The film stars Halle Berry (The Call), Patrick Wilson, John BradleyDonald Sutherland (The Hunger Games), Michael Peña (Jexi) and Charlie Plummer (All the Money in the World). Such an outstanding cast!

The film will hit theaters in February in the United States and we expect to have news about the Latin American release in the coming weeks.
