Previously known as Violence of Action, the new thriller starring Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Gillian Jacobs, might have a new name that came about a few days ago -The Mercenary. Whatever name is finally chosen, this is the new project by Swedish director Tarik Saleh, known for his previous works such as Metropia and The Nile Hilton Incident, titles which earned him several nominations and awards.
This film will tell the story of a man who is unfairly dismissed from the Marine Corps and joins a paramilitary organization. On his first mission to Poland, he realizes how lonely he is and how hard he must fight to return home safely. At the same time, he must discover the true hidden motives of those who betrayed him. Will he succeed?
The film was shot in the United States, Germany and Romania, and the international rights were acquired by STX. Its President said in an interview for an American media: "We are truly impressed by what we have seen so far (...) Chris gave an unforgettable performance that will resonate with audiences everywhere". He added: "It's an elevated action film that has real franchise potential and we are very happy to be working with Chris, Tarik and the whole team.”
