Minds that changed the world

Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse compete to create a sustainable electricity system

The film The Current War shows the most famous battle of geniuses in the United States in the 1880s.

A contest that confronted the inventor Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and businessman George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon), brilliant minds of the time struggling to develop the electrical system that would illuminate the country and change the world forever.

The story portrays how the fight became even more polarized when inventor Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Hoult), who worked briefly for Edison, now supports Westinghouse.

The portrait of a great egos fight

Directed by Alfonso Gómez-Rejón, Shannon offers an excellent performance of Edison as the genius of the time often questionable as a person. As a leading couple Cumberbatch is not far behind with his portrait of the opportunist and ruthless Westinghouse.

Recreating what was called "The War of the Currents", the film visually impresses when recreating the moments when people received electric light for the first time in their life.

 Don’t miss it!
