Bart Freundlich and the importance of the female role

The director of After the Wedding made some changes to the story

Making a new version of a film allows you to adjust elements of the original plot to adapt it so that it is read according to the current times.

The producer of After The Wedding, Joel Michaels, thought the film would work significantly better if the leading roles were played by women unlike their original version: Efter Brylluppet (2006).

And when he told director Bart Freundlich the idea, it quickly made sense. Because, according to the latter, there is currently a lack of truly significant and multifaceted female protagonists in films. Therefore, the change would make the film much more contemporary.

An aspect that gave more depth to the plot: “It had many nuances and perspectives of different, three-dimensional characters. Therefore, it was a wonderful opportunity to tell a story that addresses what it means for these women to make certain high-risk decisions, and then dealing with the consequences of those actions,” said Freundlich.

After The Wedding. A truth will soon be revealed

A mysterious, generous donation is made to the orphanage where Isabel (Michelle Williams) works in India, but she must travel to New York to receive the money. There, she meets Theresa (Julianne Moore), who has a secret involving her.

An unmissable drama!
