Green Book wins the Oscar for Best Picture!

Green Book was the big winner at 2019 Oscars by receiving three awards

Green Book won the award for Best Picture in the tight ceremony at the 91st Academy Awards.

Director Peter Farrelly's first incursion into the dramatic field was awarded the most eagerly awaited statuette of the night after winning two other disputed categories: best original screenplay and best actor in a supporting role for African-American Mahershala Ali, who had won the same award two years ago for Moonlight.

Green Book is led by Viggo Mortensen who in an also celebrated performance embodied the rude driver of the black pianist Don Shirley (Ali) in a tour to the South of the US in the height of racial segregation.

An unexpected friendship in difficult times

"This whole story is about love. It's about loving each other despite our differences and finding the truth about who we are”, said the director of Green Book while receiving the last and most coveted trophy at the end of the night.

After winning a series of high-profile awards, such as the Golden Globes, Green Book is eventually crowned as the great success in this latest season of awards by taking home the most important Oscar statuette.

A moving story that without leaving humor aside shows a friendship that transcended all the limitations of race, class and social prejudices in one of the darkest chapters of recent history.
