Colette: from a naive girl to a liberal icon

The French artist who embodied the women liberation at the beginning of the 20th century

French writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette occupied an important place among those who deserved a great cinematographic biopic.

And the challenge was not accepted by a compatriot but perhaps by the most recognized British independent filmmaker, director Wash Westmoreland.

A future nobody expected

With the audacity to get involved with a French icon, Westmoreland decides to focus on the almost epic transformation the artist went through in her youth.

Because after all, Colette went from being a little bit more than a libertine peasant at the mercy of her exploiter husband to a living milestone of the women sexual liberation of her time.

Therefore, the film shows how Colette frees herself from an oppressive marriage to let go of her imagination and embark on a literary career with books that went down in history as Gigi.

Starring Keira Knightley in the role of the writer who died in 1954, the film gives prominence to Missy, the Countess of Balbeuf, lover of Colette and a supporter when it comes to scandalizing the traditional values of society.

In short, a captivating portrait of an artist nobody should miss.
