Torture scenes, serial killers, and zombies walking down the street are some of the elements that characterize horror movies. But... Why do we enjoy this genre?
From a psychological perspective, it is hypothesized that this type of film allows us to understand more about our fears and concerns. Beyond self-knowledge, horror consists of the search for a stimulus. Those who enjoy this type of genre feel happiness at the end of a film unlike those who are not used to terrifying stories. From this perspective, we can say that certain people enjoy thrills even if they come from a negative source.
One of the upcoming releases that will make you jump out of your seat - and if you are a fan of horror films it will bring you some happiness-, is Orphan: First Kill. The film, inspired by a woman who suffers from hypopituitarism, reveals more details about Esther's dark past. The adult killer who looks like a child will try to escape from a psychiatric clinic in Estonia and travel to the United States to torment a Connecticut family.
Other films you can watch that will give you that special stimulus are: Hereditary, The Strangers: Prey at Night, The Bye Bye Man, and The Forest.
