Matt Smith: An Englishman in Hollywood

The actor continues to grow and adds more film projects

Matt Smith was born on October 28, 1982, in England. As a child, he wanted to be a professional football player but a back injury led him down a different path. A drama teacher enrolled him in an adaptation of Twelve Angry Men against his wishes, but from that moment on, he became interested in acting.

How did he start? His first starring role was in Party Animals, a drama about parliamentary advisors and researchers in Westminster. He became internationally known when he was offered the role of the Eleventh Doctor in the fictional British television series Doctor Who. Matt Smith became the youngest actor to play this character in the fifty years of the series.

One of his most notable recent films was Official Secrets, a film that tells the story of GCHQ translator Katharine Gun (Keira Knightley), who leaks a classified email that urges spying on UN Security Council members to force go to war through a resolution. Accused of violating the Official Secrets Act and facing the possibility of imprisonment, Katharine and her lawyers set out to defend her actions.

Today, the actor is a complete success both in the UK and Hollywood with each of his appearances in films and series. This is a fairly common detail in the world of celebrities, who achieve a great professional career in England and take their talents to the United States to face new challenges. Matt Smith is not the only one who dared to cross the Pacific Ocean, other actors who followed these steps were Emily Blunt (Looper), James Corden (One Chance), Rosamund Pike (7 Days in Entebbe), Felicity Jones (A Monster Calls; Collide; On the Basis of Sex) and many more!
