C’mon C’mon: between fiction and reality

A movie based on some true events

Months go by and we keep talking about the latest great film starring Joaquin Phoenix (Don't worry, he won't get far on foot). C'mon C'mon tells the story of a radio journalist who must take care of his young nephew. Mike Mills, writer, and director of the film offers a road movie shot in black and white where the main characters travel throughout the country.

This film, like most of Mike Mills' film projects, is inspired by his personal life. The film Beginners tells the story of Oliver, who reflects on the life and death of his father, and is based on different moments Mike Mills lived with his father. In the case of 20th Century Women, the director focused mainly on the women who raised him and turned him into the man he is today. C'mon C'mon explores an autobiographical aspect as it delves into Mike Mills' relationship with his son. He welcomed the first member of the family at the age of forty-six, which created a very particular bond between father and son due to the age difference.

On the other hand, Joaquin Phoenix follows the same path as the film's director when he travels around different parts of the country and interviews young people with different personal experiences. These are unscripted dialogues with real-life people who were not shy of the actor's presence and were encouraged to answer different questions that later ended up on the big screen.

C'mon C'mon is a lovely, intimate, and genuine film that invites us to reflect on the boundary between fiction and reality as well as on the connection between adults and children.
