Tarantino: keys to writing a script

What can’t be missing?

The Royal Spanish Academy defines the word script as "a brief and orderly writing in which some ideas or things have been written down with the aim of serving as a guide for a certain purpose" and "a text in which the content of a film or a radio or television program is set out with the necessary details for its fulfillment". Therefore, we can say it is a document that serves as a guide to shoot a film and that it must contain all the relevant information for the making of the audiovisual project: scenes or sequences, character dialogues, actions, etc.

There are two types of scripts in the show-business: the first one is the literary script that is written only by the scriptwriter or the person who has the idea of the story to be told. Once the script is approved by a producer, a technical script is made, which is often done with the director -who adds his or her own brand- and it details each of the scenes, shots, plans, framing, lighting, among others.

One of the world's best known directors is Quentin Tarantino. This passionate director has given us the following tips for writing a good script: first, take as references and sources of inspiration all the works you have read or heard about. Second, try to make the story as plausible as possible and take care of the details. For example, do not force the characters’ dialogues, it is ideal to "write as people speak". Third, always include some humor in the story, no matter how dramatic it is, since this resource serves to decompress. And finally, be honest with your work. That is, do not let external thoughts or criticism influence you, you must transmit the story from the bottom of your heart.
