Joel B. Michaels: "All human beings are guilty of manipulations"

The producer of After the Wedding was impressed with the original film

The “best international feature film” category of the Oscar awards impresses with the stories that have a completely different logic to American studios. And there are few cases in which a film dazzles the big producers in the industry.

Efter Brylluppet premiered in 2006 and producer Joel B. Michaels was amazed by it. “What attracted me,” he recalls, “was that it dealt with the gray areas of life, and the idea that what is morally right or wrong can be confused. All human beings are guilty of big and small manipulations.”

After some complicated negotiations, he obtained the rights of the film and wrote a series of preliminary scripts but could not find the right director for the project until he met with director Bart Freundlich.

"Bart immediately understood the intention of the movie and he talked to me about the story the way I had always imagined it," Michaels says. "I noticed that he had gotten into the psyche and psychology of all the characters."

After the wedding. A past becomes present.

Upon arriving in the city, he meets Theresa (Julianne Moore) and they discover they have a past in common.
