2018 went down in history as the year with the most female protagonists in films. Out of a total of 100 films with great audience, 40 were played by female characters.
The significant thing is that the phenomenon came as the result of the renewal of the roles of women who, until not long ago, only existed in function of the leading man.
Symbols of a trend
In this sense, Diamond Films was at the forefront with films like On the Basis of Sex (starring Felicity Jones, about the life of the justice of the Supreme Court of the United States) or Molly´s Game (with Jessica Chastain, about a successful entrepreneur who created a famous bet game).
But now another release will give plenty to talk about, also based on a true case: Hustlers.
The film directed by Lorene Scafaria stars superb Jennifer Lopez as the protagonist, who exploits all her female sensuality portraying a stripper who sets up a band to swindle rich men that go to a nightclub.
This is certainly another striking role of leading women for the necessary renewal of the big screen.
