The innocent personality of Frances McCullen (Chloë Grace Moretz) is the perfect target for a sweet widow (Isabelle Huppert) whose daughter is living abroad.
The first images of Greta show a friendship that arises by chance in the city of New York. But that chance, is it really so?
When finding a closet full of bags meant to get lost, Frances discovers that Greta is not who she says she is. "I think she's leaving bags all over the city waiting for someone to return them," the protagonist tells her best friend Erica Penn (Maika Monroe).
From that point onwards, the bond between the young woman and Greta will change radically because the dangerous widow's game has just begun and she seems to have no limit.
