In Juliet, Naked, Ethan Hawke plays Tucker Crowe, a rock star who mysteriously disappears for 20 years after a success.
The actor made a parallel between his own career and his character: "I remember that I felt it would have been very fun to do Reality Bites, and then not to act in any movie for twenty years and come back with this movie. There were certain psychic connections for me somewhere," he said excited.
Reflecting on the reason why the script attracted him, the actor says: "You ask yourself if you will succeed or not on a role, and if you have ideas to make it fun, if it wakes up your creativity."
The producers of the film were afraid to offer him a role that was originally intended for a much older person, they were afraid of offending him. The opposite happened, Hawke read the script and replied, "well, I'm old enough to have a heart attack, there's nothing about this character that I cannot identify with," he said.
