Filmmaker Pierre Morel is straight when talking about his new production: Peppermint.
“It is not about being a superhero, I don’t like superheroes, I like people with feelings and defects” he says on the film led by Jennifer Garner which is a more than expected return to the genre that saw her born: action.
But the director differentiates himself from nonsensical action, “I always try to seek for action with a purpose. That was the reason to look for a protagonist that does what she does.” And what does Riley North, the heroine in this story, do? The director himself talks about the plot of Peppermint.
Peppermint, the synopsis in Morel’s words.
“It is the story of a mother, a hard- working and determined woman, who has his daughter and husband killed in a car shooting. This terrible event hits her hard and she is trying to overcome it waiting for justice to be served.” But that does not happen for many reasons: “corruption and bribed policemen and judges. She becomes enraged and disappears for five years to take the law into her hands”, he says.
