When the idea of ​​Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot, a film about the life of cartoonist John Callahan, began to take shape, Phoenix joined instantly.

"It sounds like a cliché, but I always thought that Gus Van Sant has a unique vision," says the actor. "Since he knew John (Callahan), I felt it was not going to be a typical biopic. I've done one of those and I was not really interested in that kind of traditional narration,” he said.

The cartoons of the cartoonist were an important element in the film, and Phoenix describes his calmness in this regard: "I felt the way I wanted to use animation in the film was really interesting. But more than anything, it seemed that Gus was really passionate, and that was the most important thing for me,” he said.
