The rise of independent cinema

Moonlight and The Florida Project, two indie icons

The success of the film The Florida Project is possible, partly, thanks to Moonlight. This is what Sean Baker thinks, who directed the film focused on the vision of a girl who lives in the impoverished margins of the Disney emporium.

Competing with big productions

Both films are very different, but they share having been crowned as queens of indie cinema that climbs positions and competes billboard with great Hollywood blockbusters.

For Baker, the fact that Moonlight won three Oscars last year opened the doors to independent cinema. The cinematographic panorama no longer consists of only large companies dictating messages in the powerful entertainment industry.

Moonlight meant a crack through which began to filter productions without large budgets that shed light on stories usually avoided in Hollywood.

Moonlinght was the first film with a cast entirely composed of black men and women, which is not about racism, and LGTB-themed.

The Florida Project dares to delve into the cracks of the "wonderful world" of Disney.

Peculiar, charming, raw and very human. These are the two favorite gems of a new cinema that is making its way.
