Ruben Östlund: the director of Triangle of Sadness

It is soon to be released!

Nominated in three Oscar categories, the film follows models Carl and Yaya as they navigate the fashion world while exploring the limits of their relationship. The couple is invited to a luxury cruise with a particular group of people and while at first everything seems perfect, a storm approaches and the protagonists end up stranded on a desert island with a group of billionaires and one of the ship's waitresses.

Who directed the film? The person in charge of telling this story is Ruben Östlund, a prominent filmmaker in Swedish cinema. He began his career as a director of short films and movies in the nineties, in a self-taught way, and later studied at the Gothenburg Film School. Today, Ruben is co-founder of the production company Plattform Produktion, which carries out all his films.

He has a very specific vision for Triangle of Sadness. His main goal is to highlight the beauty industry and today's obsession with appearance. Ruben Östlund also chose to shoot the rest of the film on an island to demonstrate the difference between different spaces and how they affect the characters. Triangle of Sadness shows the fashion world and the yacht as two very hierarchical environments. The desert island, however, is a place where hierarchy suddenly disappears and everyone on it must struggle to survive. It is a film that seeks to make the viewer uncomfortable and create dilemmas to reflect on different gender roles and behavioral expectations.

Starring Charlbi Dean, Harris Dickinson, Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games, Seven Psychopaths, and Midway), and Dolly de León, Triangle of Sadness will arrive in Latin American theaters at the end of February.
