Behind the Scenes of Films: the script

One of the most important resources of the seventh art

Every film has an origin: the script. It is a text that tells what is going to happen in a film and may include dialogues, scenes, sequences, detailed descriptions of the context, and the actions that the actors must perform when filming. The script is considered to be a kind of " draft assembly", it is the initial basis of a film but does not necessarily show the final result. The script may be modified during filming, either by the director's decision or by improvisations of the actor or actress. This resource is key to the development of a short film, a movie, or a TV series.

Did you know there are different types of scripts? All of them are valid and necessary to tell a story, but they provide different details to the creation of the film. On the one hand, there is the literary script, which explains the film, the different events that take place, and the characters involved. On the other hand, there is the shooting script, which specifies the shots, framing, and camera movements. Finally, the storyboard, which is a combination of the other two and consists of different illustrations - similar to a comic book- that show the step-by-step of the shooting.

The main elements for the creation of a story are the event, the characters involved, and the time and place where the action takes place. If these elements are well-developed, they can guarantee the success of a film.

Green Book was one of Diamond's latest films to receive recognition for its wonderful screenplay. Starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), the film follows Tony Lip, who works as a bouncer at the Copacabana, one of New York's most successful nightclubs. Unfortunately, Tony will be fired and will have to look for a new job, which will lead him to become the driver of Don Shirley, a prestigious pianist.
