Director Neil Burger never ceases to amaze us. After his work on films like Divergent and Voyagers and TV series like Limitless and Billions, we are very much looking forward to the new feature film he is currently working on: The Marsh King 's Daughter.
Filming will begin this month in Canada on what will be the big screen adaptation of Karen Dionne's successful novel of the same name. The screenwriters were Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and among the producers, we find Black Bear Pictures, who have already brought us The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
What is this thriller film about? Daisy Ridley will be the protagonist and she will play Helena, a woman who seems to have an ordinary life, but she actually keeps a dark secret: her father is the infamous "Marsh King" (Ben Mendelsohn), a man who has kept her and her mother captive and isolated for years. When her father unexpectedly escapes from prison, her worst nightmares come to life.
Ridley is internationally known for having been part of some films, shorts and series of the Star Wars saga playing the iconic character Rey, which earned her multiple nominations and awards over the years. On the other hand, Mendelsohn was an Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee for his performance in Bloodline. He became internationally known for his work in Animal Kingdom, The Dark Knight Rises, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, among others, and we will soon see him in Damián Szifrón's upcoming film, Misanthrope, alongside Shailene Woodley.
