An analysis of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

The movie that features more than 600 visual effects shots

French director Luc Besson was in charge of bringing the incredible film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets to the big screen in 2017. The film is based on the French science fiction series Valérian and Laureline by author Pierre Christin, and the protagonists of the film are Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan. Actors such as Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rihanna, among others, participate in supporting roles.

The director released the film The Fifth Element in 1997 which had a great impact as people talked a lot about it due to the quantity and quality of the visual effects. The film had a budget of 90 million dollars and much of that huge investment was used to create the 250 special effects shots of the feature film. If this figure left you speechless, this will definitely astonish you: the release of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets had an investment of more than 177 million dollars and 2,355 visual effects shots.
