Traveling with Diamond: The Florida Project

Let's take a brief tour of the film's locations

We continue with this incredible section where we travel to different cities that star in our films. Our last destination was Busan, the main location of one of this year's releases, Hard Hit. Today we invite you to visit the United States, more specifically Florida, the main location of The Project Florida.

Directed by Sean Baker (Tangerine) and starring Willem Dafoe, the film follows Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) and her peculiar group of friends who enjoy their summer vacation in a motel near the big amusement parks, while their young and irresponsible parents are going through a difficult time.

What are the details that characterize this city? Florida stands out for being a large coastal area and the only state in the country with a tropical climate. The community is mostly made up of Americans and Cuban expatriates and the economy is based mainly on tourism, especially due to the amusement parks.

In this particular film, the main location is the Magic Castle Inn Motel. It is a real motel with the same facade seen in the movie and that portrays many of the conflicts this entails – it is a true reflection of Orlando's decadence. Located on Route 192, near Disney World, it has numerous stores nearby that are characterized by their bright colors or shapes inspired by the Disney Universe.

The Project Florida is an attempt to show a social class that is affected by its environment and has few economic possibilities, therefore, its only option is to live in a motel with a room they pay for weekly. This is a reality very different from the one seen in Disney, but at the same time, very close. Would you stay there?

Stay tuned for more trips!
