Traveling with Diamond: Mid90s

A tour of the west coast of the United States

A few weeks ago, we traveled to New York with Second Act, and today we head to the other side of the country to learn a little more about Los Angeles through the film Mid90s.

Written and directed by actor Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street; Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On foot), the film follows Stevie, a 13-year-old teenager in the 1990s who spends his summer between his troubled home life and the new group of friends he meets at the Motor Avenue skate shop. This nostalgic film takes us back several decades in Los Angeles through a group of teenagers, who skate around the city and inadvertently show us the different locations that characterize this great place in California.

Jonah Hill was inspired by several places where he grew up and spent his entire adolescence, including the Cheviot Hill neighborhood and the edgier areas of The Palms and Culver City. To recreate that specific atmosphere on the big screen, the film was shot in the Montebello area of East Los Angeles where they set up the skate store Motor Avenue on a vacant property.

The director also used the West LA Courthouse on Corinth Avenue in Santa Monica based on his own experiences as a child. It is a legendary location, exclusively closed to skateboarders, who filled its steps and handrails.

What other places should you visit in Los Angeles that may not appear in the film? Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, the buildings in Downtown, Civic Center, Historic Core, Chinatown and Little Tokyo, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, Griffith Observatory, and many more!

Stay tuned for more trips!
