Summer arrives with its beautiful sunny days and very hot temperatures in the Southern Hemisphere on December 21st. It is that time of the year that invites us to do outdoor activities, enjoy nature and, why not, plan possible trips to go on vacation. And with plans also come the memories of other places we have visited with family and friends.
There are several films that can take us to other cities and that we would like to recommend for the nostalgia of times past or to invite you to fantasize about how it would be to visit that dream place where the characters are walking.
Starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette and Allison Janney we find The Way Way Back, the story of a fourteen-year-old teenager who will try to mend his relationship with his mother, stepfather and himself. Where will he do this? During the summer in a small town in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, a place not to be missed!
Midnight in Paris is another option for us to visit the beautiful paving streets of Paris, not only today but a few years ago when we witnessed Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as they travel back in time through the city, led by the emblematic Woody Allen.
If we want to relive the journey, this time on top of a plane to Mexico, then we have to watch I´m so Excited! starring Penélope Cruz, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Javier Cámara, and a great cast. Directed and written by Pedro Almodóvar, this funny Spanish comedy shows how some passengers tell their worst secrets when they think their plane might crash.
And lastly, a super representative film of that time of the year we are waiting for to take a vacation: Mamá se fue de viaje, a Mexican film based on the successful Argentinean film of the same name by Ariel Winograd. The film tells about the difficulties that the family’s father (Martin Altomaro) must face when his wife (Andrea Legarreta) decides to take a few days off and leaves him in charge of their children. Although we do not know exactly where she is going, it is left to the imagination of the viewer to fantasize that part of the story.
