Toronto International Film Festival

It will be held from September 10 to 19

The 45th edition of the world-renowned Toronto International Film Festival will not only take place in Toronto as to what “international” borders are concerned. The festival is set to run September 10 to 19 almost entirely virtually. Film screenings for both the press and other industry players will also move online, although in some cases there will be in-person screenings that will comply with all the necessary safety and hygiene measures. There will also be reductions in terms of the number of films to be screened: fifty feature films (as opposed to the more than one hundred that have participated in previous editions) and thirty-six short films.

There will be special activities such as the "In conversation with..." series where some very important industry figures will participate in a warm, intimate and entertaining conversation about the films. Halle Berry, Claire Berris, Barry Jenkins, Saoirse Ronan, Denzel Washington, among others, will participate in this series.

There will also be a drive-in premiere of the Canadian documentary Underplayed, followed by a live performance by DJ and producer REZZ, as well as the screening of The Boy from Medellín, and then a conversation with reggaeton superstar J Balvin. These special activities can be viewed through the Bell Digital Cinema platform.

"We’re thankful to every filmmaker and company that joined us on this adventure, and we can’t wait to share these brilliant films with our audiences,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of TIFF.
