Felix Van Groeningen: "I felt deeply moved"

Unmissable statements by the director of Beautiful Boy

The problems of addictions are not something individual, they inevitably affect the whole family circle, and especially if the addict is a teenager. Beautiful Boy addresses this problem without concessions, creating a tremendously heartbreaking story.

When talking with the press, director Felix Van Groeningen gave details of how he came to this project: "When in 2014 I read the memories of father and son, David and Nic Sheff, I felt deeply moved. The two wrote from their personal experiences of having gone through recovery and relapse, but also moments of joy, innocence and love.”

And it reveals something that usually happens in these situations: "they start thinking they have the tools to deal with Nic's addiction, to ´solve it ‘. They do not, but they learn a lot along the way. As time passes, there are times when everything seems to be out of control, and they experience how the consequences of addiction affect every fiber of their lives," he said.

Beautiful Boy. The hard road to recovery

Beautiful Boy is a deeply moving portrait of the unbreakable love and mutual commitment of a family towards the addiction of their son and their attempts to recovery. It has a luxurious cast made up of Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan.

 A revealing film!
